Goals/Teaching Philosophy

I believe that as a teacher I am responsible for encouraging students’ involvement in their own learning, provoking their curiosity, and motivating them to make their own discoveries.  In the classroom, I balance learning of theory and facts with application using different teaching methods to effectively present material and maintain student interest.  I also include active learning techniques that will draw students into the topic and motivate them to respond to issues raised throughout the course seeking to further foster, develop and strengthen students’ critical thinking and problem solving skills.  Students are also held accountable for participating in class and completing assignments.  By providing thorough written feedback to students on major written projects and oral presentations, I address the strengths of the student’s work and areas where improvements can be made.  Further, I seek to motivate students to examine, evaluate, and challenge the assumptions, premises, interpretations, and evidence and thus establish life-long learning skills in order to continue to develop intellectually, socially, and spiritually.
