MBA Program Admission Policies

The policies appearing below are supplementary to Edgewood College Policies. Consult the graduate catalog for additional information.

Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT)
GMAT exam scores are required prior to admission to the MBA program with “regular” or “provisional” status. GMAT scores are useful in establishing individual course requirements. Students are strongly recommended to take the GMAT prior to beginning MBA coursework, although approved (restricted) coursework may be started while in “limited” status prior to taking the exam.

  • Students must call 1-800-717-4628 (GMAT) or go online at www.MBA.com to register for the test.  Students do not have to enter a special code for Edgewood.  Enter the name of the school and city.

1. A minimum grade of B (3.0) is required.

2. Work must be clearly definable as graduate coursework and must have been completed within three years prior to acceptance into the Edgewood MBA program. See the “Seven-Year (Proficiency) Rule for Completing the MBA” for an additional consideration.

3. A Request for Transfer of Graduate Business Credit from Another Institution form must be completed and filed. For a copy of this form – click here.

Appealing a Foundation or Core Course Requirement
Waivers of Foundation or Core courses reflect a specific set of requirements and are based on coursework described on certified copies of student transcripts. Waivers are part of the normal admission process. The specific requirements to obtain a waiver are:

For Foundation courses – click here.
For Core courses – click here.

A student who wishes to appeal the requirement to take a particular Foundation or Core course may do so by completing an “Appeal of Foundation or Core Course Requirement” form. To obtain a copy of this form – click here.

Core Course Substitutions
Students who have completed significant coursework in the area of a Core course not qualifying for a waiver may request to substitute another, usually more advanced, course. This may be done by completing a Core Course Substitution Request form, available in the Graduate Programs Office. It should be noted that the number of credits required to complete the MBA is not reduced as a result of the granting of a Core course substitution. To obtain a copy of this form – click here.

Timely Completion of Foundation Courses
Students who have not completed all the Foundation courses (i.e. 500 level courses) by the time they have 18 credits in Core, Elective, or Integrating Core courses (i.e. Business courses numbered 600 or above) will be restricted to registering only for Foundation courses.

Credit Load (Semester and Summer)
Full-time graduate students carry at least nine graduate semester hours each semester. Students in the Graduate Business Program may carry up to 15 credits a semester, 9 credits during the Summer Session, and 3 credits during a short session without seeking written permission from the Business Department.
